This is a popular trail. Watch for and be courteous to hikers, runners and walkers.

Overview

Tranquility is the longest and quite possibly most popular trail in Omaha. It is nearly 9 miles of singletrack packed into suburban NW Omaha. It lacks any serious climbing, but makes up for it in speed, distance and unique features.

Need to Know

The main parking lot is shared with soccer fields when in use and can be quite crowded.

Description

The trail begins and ends at the soccer field parking lot. Hit the trail and veer right at the Y in the road. The trail is designed to be ridden counter-clockwise.

Tranquility winds its way up and down and all around two hills and a flat meadow on the north loop. Trail builders also made great use of the creek running through it for mild technical sections of log crossings, jumps, and whoop-de-dos!

It is 80% exposed, but it passes through groves of pine, deciduous trees, and even large shrubbery (no laurels however). The pine sections are so perfectly out of place that the illusion of wilderness is believed beyond a doubt! Up on the south hill trail, builders display their skill and adaptability at building on whatever ends up in their path. Travelers will find trails over what was once piled earth from construction of nearby tennis courts. Were these avoided? Of course NOT! The trail goes right over the top forming a narrow ribbon along the ridge in a series of bronco bucking humps and dips that have thrown many a rider and thrilled all of them!

In the tradition of tranquility, the South hill descent delivers a bermed out jump-riddled pump track of glory! It is short lived but a hell of a good time! It looks to be doubled in size in the coming months.

On the optional, but no less fun, North Loop the trail is flat and as fast or ambling as the traveler desires. If traveling at top speed and flirting with balance and disaster is your thing, be aware that there are surprises along the way in the form of log crossings, jumps with awesome air, and a particular section on the far north side known as "Paul's Revenge".

It dives into a narrow gully and rockets straight up the other side in a near vertical track. If the rider is lacking sufficient momentum (or courage) there is a bail out path to the right. However, a spectacular crash gives just as much bragging rights as a successful cleaning of a section!

Overall, Tranquility is something to experience over and over again. Make it as long or short, fast or slow, perfect or disasterous as you like! You'll keep coming back.
