Description

The Sage Trail forms a loop around Boulder Valley Ranch along with the Eagle Trail. By itself, Sage is certainly nothing to write home about. However, it can be combined in various forms with other Boulder Valley Ranch trails, Boulder Reservoir trails, the Foothills trail, even Heil Valley Ranch for big rides. To add a little fun to Sage, don't be afraid to jump on the singletrack that parallels most of the road.

From the northeast junction of the Sage and Eagle trails, head northwest. Jump on the rocky singletrack to the south of the road just past the gate. Crank on the level terrain until you hit the junction with North Rim Trail (which can add a few miles when combined with Left Hand Trail). The road descends briefly (a short section of fun singletrack on the north side of the road here) and then climbs in loose gravel to a gate. (Rumor has it the gate is going to be replaced with a ride-over cattle grate this spring.)

Ride up a little rise past the ranch on your left (saying hello to any horses along the way). Then cruise down a wide section and up a short little gain to a gate accessing Boulder Valley Ranch parking lot on your left. Ride through the parking lot (and another gate) and then quickly jump on the singletrack running along the road on the right. There is some fun rolling trail here with a couple little rocks, tight turns, and deep ruts. Sage trail officially ends at the junctions with Eagle Trail where you can go straight for a loop (and a really fast descent) or take a sharp right for a super steep climb up the mesa.
