This one to two hour ride hits the highlights of the Outlaw trail area. You ascend to the top of the network, hit the
Jail Break descent, climb back to the top of
Above the Law and descend
Scorpion before heading home (or taking another loop).
From the Stile (that's the ladder across the wire fence) take the left hand trail (
Outlaw Trail) and climb climb climb. At the terminus of Outlaw, keep climbing on
Twisted Sister until you top out the climb at the fence line. The other side of the fence is private property. Don't even think of going there, even if you see tracks. As you are climbing
Twisted Sister you have the choice in a couple of spots of staying left on old two track, or bearing right on singletrack. If you take singletrack that descends, you are going the wrong way.
The descent from the peak, down
Jail Break, is a grin inducing joy ride. Ignore those millions of years of evolution telling to to grab the breaks and let her rip. But seriously, be a bit careful until you get the feel for this trail. There are stretches with significant exposure to your left and you are a long way from help. If you happen to glance at your mobile phone, you'll notice there is not always service back here.
Ok, you have made it to the bottom of
Jail Break. Time to pay the price and climb out. Lucky for you, the climb out is shorter than the descent. The climb out will intersect with
Twisted Sister. Take your first right off of
Twisted Sister and begin the
Above the Law climb.
Peak out on
Above the Law and take the super fast slick rock and singletrack descent. After you and your suspension take their beating in the tree's "speed bumps" you really only have one short climb left until it is truly all downhill from here.
The entrance to
Scorpion is easy to miss. Look at the trail's description for the low down. The
Scorpion descent is very technical and very fun. Until you get the feel for this trail you'll have to take it easy as you'll have a hard time navigating. There are numerous section on bare rock where you cannot see where those before have gone.
After descending
Scorpion there is just one short climb before you the long steady run out on the
Outlaw Trail.
This is a great ride. It has moderate climbs, super fast flowy downhill and sensory assaulting steep rocky descents. Take your time getting to know these trails and you'll find the lines that let you find your inner hero (and turn off that little voice in your head that tells you you are going way too fast).
