Overview

This ride starts and stops at Cultus Lake Resort but can be ridden from a variety of locations and still make a full loop. We typically ride CW for the fun downhill section about mid-way.

Need to Know

The downed trees from winter storms are often mostly cleared by mid July, though you may encounter a few any time of year.

The trail surface very good, not sandy or soft. Clear trail until west end of Cultus Lake, then there were about 2 dozen trees across trail. Most were in the Deer Lake section. When riding CCW, the gravel road from Little Cultus Lake to Cultus Lake is mostly downhill and would be a pleasure except for continuous washboarding.

Description

Ride from the resort on pavement to the dirt road NF-4630. Most people won't like this studdery 2 mile road climb, but I just take it easy and don't work up a sweat. If you leave out to late (noon) the full weight of the sun will make this section unpleasant.

At the top of the road, head right to a small camp site on Little Cultus Lake. At this point drop into the singletrack on your left. This trail is Deer Lake Trail winds through the dense forest crossing streams with small wooden bridges to Deer Lake. Deer Lake is famous for the swarms of mosquito's that enjoy this area.

Beyond Deer Lake is the Cultus Trail that will take you through some of the funnest, fastest & most difficult parts of the ride. The end of this GPS track takes you off the camp road onto a short final trail section that is hard to find but gives you a little drop off a bridge for fun. (You can weave in and out of the campground, parking areas and beach area or just follow the paved road back to Cultus Lake Resort)

There is really nothing technical or overly difficult to any part of the Cultus Loop. A good family ride that you'll often encounter hikers and runners.

Finish the ride through a shady camp ground road back to the resort where you may be able to crash a water volleyball game and grab a meal or drink.

Getting the gravel climb and under-trafficked deer lake section out of the way first is definitely the way to go. Fun trail! 12.4mi — 1h 40m
