Starting from Lane Trail, this trail climbs to the junction with Carr Ridge through a few switchbacks on a well packed surface. It then descents to Catamount Brook (loose) and climbs back up. After about 0.3 miles from the start is a bridge over Catamount Brook and the trail turns right. It climbs more, crosses over Sentinel Pine Trail at the junction with Alpe d'Huez and climbs even more. The climbing becomes more technical. In general, the section after the bridge is the more technical one. There are even more rocks on the downhill to Catamount Shortcut.
Most riders avoid the technical part of the trail to Catamount Shortcut and go straight at the bridge using Catamount to Sentinel Trail connector. That option is much easier.
