Description

Starting from the Tunnel Canyon, the West Ridge has 3 significant climbs mixed with some fast twisting singletrack in the trees before plunging back down into Otero Canyon. The climbs are characterized by loose terrain that either needs to be avoided or ridden smoothly to maintain traction. There are also a handful of limestone ledges to negotiate along with the occasional rock garden.

The top of the ridge offers a twisting track among the pion trees with a rock garden here and there before you hit the KAFB withdrawal boundary. From here the trail drops with tight turns and several rocks to jump or avoid and a log to ride. The last bit will leave a smile on anyones face.

The last sandy stair steps of the West Ridge climbing. As you can see plenty of people "slide" down going the opposite direction.

A closer view of the sign that is hidden in the trees. I actually have my back against a tree to take this photo.
