Need to Know

Camp Robinson is an active military installation, so riders should confirm current access requirements before visiting. Be prepared to show valid identification at the gate and follow all posted signs, gate instructions, parking rules, and approved travel routes. Access policies, open areas, and hours may change based on training or installation requirements.

The Camp Robinson MWR Complex/APEX area is nearby and may be a useful stop before or after riding, with food, snacks, drinks, and restroom access when open. Riders should verify current operating hours before relying on those services. Bring your own water for the ride, especially during hot and humid weather.

Description

ROGER WILCO is the Camp Robinson NICA Course. A fun, wooded cross-country mountain bike loop built for student-athlete development, racing, and repeatable practice. The route winds through classic central Arkansas hardwood forest with a good mix of flowing singletrack, short climbs, quick descents, natural turns, and enough rocks and roots to keep riders engaged without making the course feel overly technical.

The course starts near the open field area before quickly entering the woods. Once on trail, riders should expect mostly narrow singletrack with rolling terrain, frequent changes in direction, and short punchy efforts rather than one long sustained climb. The loop rewards smooth riding, smart braking, good line choice, and the ability to carry momentum through corners.

This is a strong NICA-style course because it works for a wide range of riders. Newer riders can ride it at a controlled pace and build confidence on real mountain bike terrain. More experienced riders will find plenty of opportunities to push the pace, attack short climbs, corner efficiently, and manage effort across the full lap. The challenge is less about any single feature and more about staying focused, riding smoothly, and recovering between repeated efforts.

Trail conditions are generally reliable. The course drains well and does not usually become muddy after rain, though riders may encounter a few small wet spots or slick roots depending on recent weather. Most of the trail remains rideable and firm, making it a dependable option for practice and events.

Key skills for this course include looking ahead through wooded singletrack, braking before turns, shifting early for short climbs, riding light over roots and rocks, and maintaining momentum through rolling terrain. Passing should be done with patience and communication, especially in narrower sections.

Overall, ROGER WILCO is a fast, fun, shaded, and approachable cross-country loop with enough variety to develop riders and enough flow to make them want another lap.
