Need to Know
The south end is accessed from
Lanston Trail, which you can get to from the main trail through Tecolote Canyon or from Lanston Street. There is an access in the middle from Manning Street. The north end of the trail is accessed from Quillan Street just south of Osler. If continuing on to ride
Wheatstone Rim Trail you can either pedal two blocks west on Osler Street or Quillan Street to get to the beginning of
Wheatstone Rim Trail. Or cross the intersection of Quillan and Osler and enter Wheatstone Rim at the midpoint.
Description
From south to north, the Lanston
Rim Trail starts at the top of
Lanston Trail just before it exits onto Lanston Street. The trail starts off with a couple of quick turns and a short descent and climb. It crosses a short patch of flat ground before dropping down onto some sidehill singletrack with a bit of exposure as it turns east. It undulates and generally follows the contour east for about 1/4 mile before turning north at a seasonal stream crossing. Not long after turning north, the trail widens into a dirt path as it passes close by some homes. You'll also notice many social trails on the west side of the trail. These are mostly used by homeless people and do not serve any useful purpose for bikes. Not long after widening, there is an access point to Manning Street on the right. The trail continues north, dropping down one final time before ending through a patch of grass that looks like someone's backyard. It exits through a gate onto Quillan just south of Osler Street.
