Overview
This is an excellent route for those looking for a bit more cross country style riding. Hagen Trail is mostly uphill with some technical sections and short down hill bits. It is shaded, keeping temps cooler during a hot summer day. Once connected with
Putt Putt Trail, the riding transitions to downhill cross country, with short climbs and long fast downhill sections. The last bit to
Nelson Knoll Trail, in my opinion, is the best downhill bit -- flowy and fast!
Description
Park at the Nelson Knoll trailhead. From Nelson Dr. turn left (west) on East Hansen, then left (south) on Rancher to Cache Creek Dr. Turn right on Cache Creek and then make a left on Upper Cache Creek Dr. just past the trailer park. Take this steep road to
Jacks Trail Access #4035A.
Jacks Trail Access #4035A will connect with
Hagen Highway Trail #4035 towards Cache Creek Trailhead. Merge onto Hagen Trail. Hagen is pretty mellow at first, then climbs short but steep sections including a hike-a-bike.
At the end of Hagen trail,
Putt Putt Trail begins just across from Cash Creek Road. The first section of Putt Putt is a long-ish climb up a hot and sunny south face. The fun down-country flow begins at the top of this leg. It's mostly descent except for 3 or 4 short climbs. The last climb ends at the edge of this bench and nice, fast flow awaits you on the way back to Nelson Knoll TH.
