Description
Moose Creek is a backcountry-like trail that connects the Tizer Basin Loop Trail to Elk Park and McClellan Creek Trails in the North, and LongFellow Clear Creek Trail in the southeast. It is perhaps best used as a southern access point for a descent down McClallen peak trail during a long route, or as a loop in conjunction with Lower Elk Park trail (similar in difficulty to this one). It can be ridden in either direction, however there are some steep sections north of Tizer Basin that may be challenging if you are travelling uphill heading north.
Starting at the top (north) end of the trail, it starts with a small uphill followed by a long descent down a rocky ridge. The trail will reach a meadow called Airplane Park and make an abrupt right turn, followed by a traverse on what appears to be an old doubletrack. The trail will then drop down to join moose creek itself. It will wind alongside moose creek with a variable trail width until it pops out at a cabin and turns to doubletrack proper. There will be an unmarked fork in the doubletrack, but either way will bring you down to the Tizer Basin Loop Trail. Make a left hand turn here and just before the bridge, continue straight to rejoin with Moose Creek Trail. This southeastern section starts off as a doubletrack, but very quickly becomes singletrack. It follows alongside the creek and the riding is less steep and easier than it was to the north. The trail ends at a fork with Longfellow Clear Creek Trail heading in both directions.
