Overview

Medicine is renowned as the most technical trail in the Horse Gulch trail system. The steep, rock slab-filled downhill comes at you fast and furious, with optional drops providing true double black diamond difficulty. Even though most maps give Medicine a double black rating, the main line through the trail is really only worthy of a single black. However, the big drops would move it up to a double black rating.

Description

This route is fairly straightforward for a Horse Gulch ride. Begin by heading up the road until you reach the left turn onto Rocky Road . Climb Rocky Road to the top of the ridge, turn left, and descend to where both Medicine and Snake Charmer peel off to the left. Both of these trails begin at the same point, so make sure you find the entrance to Medicine specifically.

On the way down the mountain, Medicine crosses several trails, which can get confusing. When in doubt, look for the primarily downhill route with the biggest and roughest features.

Once back at the road, follow it down and back out to the trailhead.
