Overview

This advanced loop features some of the best riding on the northeast side of Hartman Rocks Recreation Area. Be prepared for technical riding on terrain typical for the area. There are no shortage of technical rock features on both the ups and the downs that will be sure to test your balance and leg strength.

You'll get have a chance to get warmed up on on some blue and black trails that weave through sage brush and between massive granite boulders before coming to the crux trail, Free Fall. Hang on and take in the beautiful scenery while you try to survive the epic descent. Both Free Free Fall and The Notch Trail contain multiple alternate lines for you to get creative with your riding.

Description

Lower Jack's: Start the loop from the parking area on the north east side of Hartman Rocks Recreation area and head west to get on Lower Jack's and connect to Jack's Trail.

Jack's Trail: Follow good signage as you wind up the first real climb of the tour. After a short steep section you'll exit Jack's Trail onto the dirt Road 3505. Bike through the small parking lot on your right and proceed to the start of Tailpipe.

Tailpipe: Your first taste of moderate descending among stellar granite rock formations the leads to The Ridge.

The Ridge: Starts with some technical climbing up through granite formations until the trail bends off to the left, and you gain the ridge as well as splendid views of the valley to the north and Hartman Rocks to the south. Then it's a loose, technical rollercoaster that leads to Top of the World.

Top of the World: After finishing The Ridge, bear right to find the entrance to Top of the World. Moderate singletrack containing sustained climbing with a couple solid technical moves required to ride it clean.

Alonzo's Connector: take the shortcut connector trail to Alonzo's.

Alonzo's: Start a flowy and fast descent to the road. When you hit the road, take a hard left and continue descending a short ways on the doubletrack road to the Behind the Rocks trail.

Behind the Rocks: The trail starts with a technical short, punchy climb that turns into fine singletrack with some moderate technical ups and downs through large granite formations. Keep an eye out for bonus lines towards the end of the trail. This is a really interesting section and the scenic views abound. The trail spits you out basically in a campsite, follow signage to the start of Free Fall.

Free Fall: This expert level trail winds over unique and narrow rock faces, and includes several marked steep, technical descents culminating in an exposed rock spine with high consequences. This feature is committing, don't look left... Make sure to spot the trail beforehand as it can be loose and more difficult to follow on the rock slabs, not to mention, giving yourself time to scope the many alternate lines. Good luck!

Road 3510: After surviving your freefall, turn right and follow the dirt Road 3510 for a short ways and take another right onto Road 3505. Climb this road until you get to the top of the hill, then take a left on Road 3535 until to get to the entrance to Beck's. This small climb sets you up to maximize your final trails back to the car. (If you had more gas in the tank, add Tech Beck's trail in here for max kudos).

Beck's: Catch your breath with this fast, flowy, fun descent to the start of The Notch.

The Notch: This is the last of the climbing, but the gauntlet isn't over. This spicy trail starts with some fun technical uphill challenges climbing up and between granite slabs, in case you hadn't had your fill yet. With many bonus lines, be sure to keep your eyes open and your imagination running. Before you know it, the trail gives way to rowdy, grin-inducing descending to the junction with Collarbone Alley.

Collarbone Alley: Take a right onto this rolling flowy trail with big dips that takes you back to the parking lot.
