Need to Know
Both trails (Old Timber Line Trail & Sidings Rail Trail) are dual use and bi-directional.
The Old Timberline Trail in particular is fairly popular with hikers, given the two swimming locations and beautiful singletrack.
In some parts the trail lacks clear signage, and it is better signed in a clockwise direction than anti-clockwise ... however an anti-clockwise ride puts you at the swimming pool in the Brook towards the end of the ride.
Look for the signs with a black hatchet/axe on the Old Timberline Trail, and the Siding Trail is a spoked wheel (also shared with the blue and yellow Munda Biddi signs)
Description
Starting from Foreshore Park in Nannup, the first section of the trail, when hiked or ridden in a clockwise direction follows the 22 km Old Timberline Trail. It can be paired with the 15km Sidings Trail for a 37km loop.
This section of the trail is a little hilly and passes through some lovely forest along the banks of the St Johns Brook.
You'll pass Workmans Pool, Barrabup Pool (where you can have a swim in the warmer weather), and Sleeper Hewers Hut (the ruins of a 100 year old once spectacular railway bridge).
Camping is permitted at these three locations. The Sleeper Hewers Camp has a hut with bunk beds for 8 people, a rain water tank, toilets, picnic table and access tothe river for swimming. Barrabup Pool and Workmans Pool have toilets and picnic tables provided.
