Overview
Definitely not the easiest shuttle option but shuttle ride featuring most of the best singletrack in the park. Lots of natural features, rocks, overlooks and a little bit of climbing.
Need to Know
There is no shuttle service in town at this time, if you only have 1 car and don't mind climbing 1,500 ft in 5 miles you can ride up Sugarloaf Road or take trails all the way up.
Description
Leave a car in town and shuttle up to Firetower Road. Take the road until the gate on your left and follow that trail until it merges onto
McCune Trail. Follow
McCune Trail a mile or two across the technical ridgeline singletrack and be blessed with an excellent downhill to the overlook.
From the overlook, ride the doubletrack a mile and a half until
Upper Canyons Edge veers off to the right about halfway down the last descent. Follow
Upper Canyons Edge to
Canyons Edge Loop to
Lower Canyon Edge to
Woodrat and onto Upper
Baughman Trail.
After the Baughman overlook, continue down
Baughman Trail just past a rock drop and turn left to cross the road and pick up Rock City (
Sugarloaf/Baughman Connector) to take down to
Lower Sugarloaf Trail. Keep an eye out for the re-route on Rock City; it veers off to the left about 50 feet after the road crossing, if you come to a lot of downed trees you probably missed it. Lots of good natural features on this trail!
After Rock City, turn right on
Lower Sugarloaf Trail and hold on! Smash city til you end with a short climb to the road. Cross the road and follow the trail across a gravel road and over to the GAP rail trail. You can take the ramp down to the river and cool off here.
