Need to Know

To access the south trailhead, drive in from either the east or west on Highway 16A. The Grace Coolidge Campground is located 11 miles east of Custer. It is also 14 miles west of Hermosa.

Directly across the road from the Grace Coolidge Campground is a small parking lot on the north side of Highway 16A. A few hundred feet down a gravel road to the north is another small parking lot at the actual trailhead.

Restrooms, water, and showers at Center Lake.

Description

Absolutely gorgeous trail alongside several small dams, cool rock formations, and lush canopy. Several creek crossings you can either pedal through (some above your BB and axles) or use narrow foot bridges. Steady manageable climb up to Center Lake and a fun descent back down.

excellent trail, kids loved the crossing. biking up the the lake was challenging, but the ride back down was worth it.
