Access to the trail is from:
1. The Santa Fe Trail about 0.25 miles west of Skyline Drive.
2. From Skyline Drive just south of Iron Springs Road.
3. From the West Side Story trail south of Iron Springs Trailhead.

The Clown Town Trail as shown on the Prescott trail map is inaccurate.

From west to east, the trail begins on the Santa Fe Trail about 0.25 miles west of Skyline Drive. It begins by ascending fairly steeply for 0.25 miles before topping out and descending to the Circus Maximus Trail.

The trail merges onto the Circus Maximus loop for a few hundred feet until it turns off to the right. The trail descends slightly until it reaches Skyline Drive (and a parking area) at about the 0.6-mile point just after crossing the Circus Maximus loop again.

Across Skyline Drive, the trail descends along Spence Creek. (This section of the trail could be considered a separate trail called the Upper Spence Creek trail, but is included with the Clown Town here. None of these trails are signed.) The descent ends at the West Side Story trail about 0.5 miles down from the Iron Springs Trailhead.

The trail doesn't have much in obstacles or difficulties other than the elevation gain is steep in spots.
