Overview
Good climb on the first portion. Then long downhill. Almost all singletrack (just a little double toward the end). Winding, twisty, good ride. You can ride either way, but counter clockwise is recommended.
Need to Know
There may be livestock in the summer months. Give these moms and calves a chance to get out of your way. There may be a dad with them, but the moms are who you need to watch.
Description
This route can be ridden either way, but counter clockwise may be easier. From the trailhead, follow the trail right. You might as well ride the skinny at the trailhead. Grind up
Never Sweat. It will have uphill bermed turns to start.
At the powerlines, follow the trail to the right and stay right past the first trail. Then you could either take the next left (B line trail that is just as hard) or bomb down the hill. The singletrack will turn tight and twisty around obstacles, rocks, trees, and logs. Trail builders called this segment the goat trail because you need to twist and turn on rough ground. It's not hard, and is low exposure. A good segment for beginners to gain confidence.
After the goat segment, the trail is singletrack on an old two track. Follow
Never Sweat past the
Noose/
Rustler junction. Hand-dug dirt surface trail winds in and out of the pines with steady spaced climbing segments. Pass the junction with
Lasso, continue on to junction 22 with
Breakneck and
Hog Pen.
Hog Pen is narrow singletrack with some out-slope trail. Also, watch for thick slick pine needles on the downhills.
At the HOD junction, stay right. Follow down into the
Hole of Despair (HOD). It's fun but you'll need to grind out on the other end of this trail. HOD has steep tight turns, drops, logs and rocks, and areas of thick trees. When you see the cabin ,you'll be passing the junction with
Jumbo .2. Stay right. This is the grind.
This is where you pay for the awesome downhill. At the top of the hill, continue on the right hand trail passing the
Salt Creek .2 junction. The HOD is still tight, narrow, hand-dug trail. Bomb down the trail onto
Last Draw holding momentum as far up the hill as you can. It is a short pedal over to the next rocky downhill leading to
Calf at the big field.
Bomb across that, high gear all the way! Keep it pumping on the singletrack back to the trailhead. And while you're at it, hit that skinny one more time.
History & Background
This former golf course is now leased for grazing and managed for timber. Revenue from that and the trails generates funds for the Wyoming schools.
