Need to Know

Park at the Appalachian Trail parking lot about one-third of the way up Morgan's Mill Road.

Description

This may win the prize as the steepest unpaved road in Northern Virginia / within 60 miles of DC. Might be the best place to train for a MTB trip to a region with major mountains. Hard to be sure about those claims, but it does go straight up the side of a mountain.

Road surface is packed dirt and gravel. Not very many large rocks or loose gravel. This is a two-way road open to traffic. It is not singletrack or doubletrack. Feels like a road through a national forest in the Rockies or Vermont, etc. Some sections are much steeper than the 7% average.
