Need to Know

No fee to park or use the trail, though there is a donation box for voluntary contributions to much-needed trail upkeep. The turnoff from WI-67 is marked with a sign for the Rocky Knoll Trail Network. The trails surround the Rocky Knoll Health Care Center, but they aren't responsible for the trails and the building is off limits to trail users.

Description

This is the main segment of a small trail network built in 2019. It packs a decent amount of trail into a pretty small area through judicious use of switchbacks. The trail starts off with a bit of uneven terrain before mostly leveling off about a mile in. Throughout the trail, you'll get to try out a handful of artificial features.

The two other trail segments branch off from the main trail at different points, and add up to around five miles if all three are taken. There are plenty of points where the trail is intersected by the senior center's roads, making it really easy to get right to the sections you want to hit.

Even though Rocky Knoll is built at a senior care center, this is not your Grandma's ride in the woods. The red loop is the most difficult, blue is intermediate, and yellow is easy. Both the blue loop and red loop make use of artificial wood features and a number of rock gardens to spice up the ride. Combined with plenty of tight twists, and turns, and some short steep ascents, this trail system is surprisingly technical. It makes a nice alternative to Greenbush in the area.

The trail system seems much better maintained now, and no longer in disrepair. Although it is overgrown in a handful of areas from the sides, but should be no issue for any riders.

Rode the red, blue, & yellow loops. Only one tree down on yellow. Trails seem like they need to be ridden more since winter. Improvements are coming. 4.3mi — 0h 45m
