There are sections of walker-only trail in the urban parks. Be a good citizen and don't ride these bits.

Need to Know

Watch for other trail users!

The route is quite well marked with small arrow signs as needed. The only confusion is that there is a short segment where the route-setters decided you should use different trails for each direction (at Dorostkar Park). It's hard to say why they did this (maybe to avoid crossing the busy street?), but if it gets confusing that's probably why. Going east, take the bike lane on Mayberry Road to Edgewater Parkway and back to the river; going west, jump onto the Dorostkar Park path from Mayberry Drive just past Fenno Way.

Description

This is a popular road bike ride. Though paved, it is also the best route to use to access the dirt segments of the Tahoe-Pyramid Bikeway if you don't want to use a car shuttle.

The first two thirds of the route are somewhat haphazard, linking together bike lanes, bicycle boulevards, bike paths, and quiet city streets, alternately approaching and diverging from the Truckee River, and crossing from shore to shore on the available bridges. From downtown Reno, the route stays beside the river for the rest of the route.

The riding is mostly mellow spinning, the roads and paths generally quiet, and the route direct and logical from a bird's-eye view. You ride next to the river for much of the way, making it scenic and hard to get lost... or at least to find yourself again if you do.

Nice paved bikeway. Reno-Sparks section has lots of homeless camps, sadly. Invisible from the roads, of course.
