This ride is a great way to get a taste of what the Reno Wheelmen Twilight Mtb Race Series has to offer. The series has been held from April until September for the past 28 years in the Reno Area on Thursday nights. The series is run entirely by volunteers of the Reno Wheelmen, a nonprofit cycling club that has promoted cycling events in the Reno area since 1896. The events have been designed to promote cycling and fitness for all levels of cyclists in the community. Many of the these cyclists have volunteered hundreds hours with IMBA Related Clubs to help build and maintain the USFS trail system through the Carson Ranger District and Washoe County Parks Trail System.

The Reno Wheelmen host 50 plus competitive cycling events every year in all types of cycling disciplines. We support our members who race with generous race reimbursement as well as discounted clothing. You don't need to be a member to race, but it is encouraged as it is the support from our members and sponsors that allows us to promote these events.

Need to Know

This race course was used from 2014 to 2016. There can be snow and mud from December to March. The mud on lower Peavine is all clay. It sticks to your bike until you stop. The only thing more fun that carrying a 50 lb. mud-covered bike is cleaning it.

The ride starts in Rancho San Rafael Park at the beginning of the Evans Canyon Trail (1, 11, 2). Riders climb North on Miners Trail (2, 10, 12), west up Rancho Connector Trail (12, 13, 23, 22, 34), passing by Keystone Canyon Trail and the Middle Keystone Trail Access Area to the edge of Rancho San Rafael Park.

Riders then leave Rancho San Rafael Park at the Podunk Trail (Trail Marker 34) and head north up the Podunk Trail (34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39), then south down Total Recall (39, 62, 61) to Road 41652 near the Radio Towers. The course continues north on Road 41562 and then west on Road 21551 to Total Recall (63).

Riders then head NW up the Total Recall (63, 49), then SW on the Halo Trail (49, 21551, 48, 21535, 47, 46, 45, 41653, 44). From the Halo Trail (44) the route heads north up the Crispy Bacon Strip Trail (44, 21541, 54, 55=Feed Zone) and then west up the Bacon Strip (55, 56, 57) to the Scrub Brush Trail (57, Upper Snowboard Bench). This is the top of the course.

At this point, the ride heads north down the Scrub Brush Trail (57, Road 21529, 69), then south down Lingles Loop Trail (69, Road 41652, 56/66, Road 41652, 66). At trail marker 66, riders will head NW up Total Recall Trail (66, 67) and descend north down the Bobsled Trail (67, 21529), then SE to the 3 Trees Trail (1875) continuing on to Nortons Toll Road (1875, 1874).

From the Toll Road, the route continues SE on Stage Coach Trail (1874, 1873, 1872, 1871) to Road 41652 near the Radio Towers. The route heads South on Keystone Canyon Trail (27, 26) to the UNR DH Course (26, U1, U2). Riders then enter Rancho Park heading South on Reno Vista Trail (U2). The route heads south on Reno Vista Trail (U1, 14, 13) to the Rancho Connector Trail (13, 12) until heading North Miners Trail (12, 10, S1), Then East Snake Trail (S1,S2), to Evans Canyon Trail (S2,2). The ride ends at the Basque Monument (0).
