Need to Know

If on a MTB, please give hikers the right of way.

Parking for Lampblack is located across the parking lot from the Shawnee Lodge. It is actually the first area of parking you reach when driving to the lodge. You enter the trail by crossing a small wooden bridge. Mountain bikes can easily ride over this bridge.

Lampblack can be accessed from within the SOMBA trail system also by taking Horseshoe and using the Lampblack connector trail. Just note that using the connector trail in this direction will be a switchback climb up to Lampblack.

Restroom and water are located in Shawnee State Lodge, please try to be cautious not to track mud into the lodge. After ride beverages and food can be found in the lodge at "The Smokehouse" restaurant.

Description

Lampblack is a 1.5 mile, multi-use loop. This is the only trail currently in the park designated as multi-use. This trail is fun in either direction. Plan to climb in either direction. However, you are rewarded with a fun, fast descent in either direction also. If riding this trail in the clockwise direction, you'll find the short connector to the other SOMBA/Shawnee MTB trails near the end, on the left.
