on the crest, dropping down usually means finding yourself on the major paved roads that transverse, and encircle the Alpilles massif.
Instead, this mapped route leads you down gravel fire roads and neighborhood lanes to reach the hilltop fortified village of Les Baux. From there, the route works generally westward and along the contour of the hillsides following farm tracks as far as the Château d'Estoublon. This estate is famous for olive oil and wine tastings, and as the setting for a popular 1970's-1990's history-based TV series, "Les Gens de Mogador
Both Les Baux and the Château provide an excellent opportunity for a delightful patio lunch: c'mon, skip the Clif bars today... you're in France!
Beyond the Château, the track works NW along the contour through orchards and vineyards, terminating at a field of hooped greenhouses. Turn right and follow the road into and upward along the bottom of the Vallon de la Lèque, with popular climbing crags looming on your left. Bear left on the main road, and eventually, you'll reach the GR6 again.
