The War Daddy is a 68-mile mixed surface race consisting of pristine pavement, glorious gravel, daunting dirt, and doubletrack trails that will keep you begging for more.
Be ready to face some of the coolest areas in Kentucky including the infamous Hell for Certain, Devil's Jump, Twist N Sourwood, and the one and only War Daddy! The paved roads are awesome, the gravel roads will make you smile yet mad as hell, and the doubletrack will make you tickled pink that you are near the end. The race will be approximately 68 miles long with 4 aid stations, 2 of which will be drop bag locations. The elevation of the route will be in the neighborhood of 7,000-8,000 ft.
All categories will depart at the same cruising pace for a neutral roll out that will be about 5 miles before the brapp will be wide open. The roads will continue to be open to traffic and all laws of the road should be followed appropriately. We will have some volunteers pointing you in the right direction and slowing/stopping traffic in certain areas. Also check out the Facebook page for our event which will be updated regularly with new info about the race as well as provide you with more information about the course. As we ride the sections and get them dialed for race day, we will be providing some humorous clips of what to expect and maybe even some what not to expect info.
We will have a file before the event that you can download of the course. We are going to work hard to have a very well marked course that you can race confidently knowing you are in the right place!
Finally, The War Daddy is a fund raising event for The Kentucky School of Bluegrass & Traditional Music which is located in Hyden, KY where the race will take place. A portion of your entry fee will go to the college and there will also be on site ways to donate and help these amazing musicians as well. We are still working out the details on how to incorporate all of the events that will be taking place before, during, and after the bike race, but rest assure you'll get your belly full of some good ol' bluegrass pickin and grinnin'!
Ok...and yes you'll get a sweet T-shirt at packet pick up and a finishers award as well!
