Description

This trail starts from the Colma di Valpiana. A short 1 km (0.6 mi) doubletrack leads into the forest where a network of downhill tracks head down towards Pogno. Canalone is the most famous of them. The wild downhill begins through a dense forest: roots, drops, sudden upslopes, more drops, leaf-covered sections, and very little pedaling.

If you want to make this into a loop, you can climb to Colma di Valpiana using paved roads. There is a large parking area in the center (Centro) of Pogno. Take the provincial highway SP76 (via Cremosina) to SP103. In the small hamlet of Valpiana, take Colma di Valpiana to the entrance to this trail. Total distance is about 11 km (7 mi), and of course you've got to climb all the way up. The place seemed pretty popular. You might be able to get a shuttle if you befriended one of the locals.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.
