Open to vehicle traffic. Closes occasionally for logging or weather—check with the USFS here.

Need to Know

Keep your eyes open for vehicle traffic, though it is usually light. There can also occasionally be logging truck traffic. There are some roadside campsites that are somewhat regularly occupied by folks who don't take care of the surroundings and might have unruly dogs.

Description

Most do not climb the full length of this road, but there is a paid parking lot at the bottom, and some riders climb the full length from the campground. Most park either at the bottom of Bear Branch Trail #328 or at the Trace Ridge Trailhead.

Like most gravel roads in Pisgah, this one starts gentle and ramps up to its top at the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can also cross the Parkway and descend Bent Creek Gap Rd. (FR 479) into the Bent Creek area.
