Getting forecast...

Most ride this twisty, rocky trail down, but if you want a real challenge, ride it up and down.

Dogs Leashed

Features -none-

This trail can get snowed and icy in the winter and is best ridden in the spring, summer, and fall.

This trail makes for a challenging out-and-back ride that 90% ride downhill only. Riding it up is a technical challenge with some pitches that are 20+% and quite rocky in spots. This could be considered an advanced trail in the uphill direction and intermediate/advanced in the downhill direction. Be prepared to hike-a-bike in some spots if you choose to ride it up.

The trail is in great condition and has some fantastic views of the San Gabriel range as well as the Inland Valleys. Remember, this is a shared-use trail so be on the lookout for hikers.

If you want to do this as a shuttle you can park at the top at the Children's Forest Parking lot, but remember your Adventure Pass! You can also ride up the road and then descend and, of course, if you want to raise your heart rate, ride it up then turn around and ride it down.

Took this trail as an out and back. Great mix of rock and dirt to dig into! 9mi

Exploration is more what I would call an enduro trail with a downhill focus, rather than a strictly downhill trail. There are more than a few areas of uphill pedaling and technical climbing, even on the "descent." I both climbed it and descended on my first visit today. I definitely will not climb it again, as only very elite technical climbers will be able to clean everything on the ascent. There are way too many HAB sections for my taste (However, those HAB sections are very fun once you are coming back down). Exploration is very fun going downhill, but at 4.4 miles, it is just too short to be great. My ideal ride on this trail would be two shuttle runs, or one shuttle run and then head over to SkyPark. Skyline trail is the better Big Bear trail, overall, but Exploration (downhill only) is more fun ... if that makes sense. Sep 23, 2018
