“A 20-mile rail trail along the Big Gunpowder Falls.”
— Cheryl Ladota
This multi-use trail is open from sunrise to sunset.
Family Friendly: Easy ride along a river with wildlife, wildflowers, and native plants.
This rail-trail stretches from Ashland, Maryland north to the Maryland-Pennsylvania line, passing through many historic communities and quaint towns. This is a classic rail trail, with primarily wide paths, although there are a few narrower areas where two bikes cannot ride side by side.
There's not much elevation gain and the trail is generally easy except for the length. It's a very scenic ride along the Big Gunpowder Falls, with frequent viewing areas, bathrooms, park benches and picnic areas. There are also many historic railroad signs and markers along the way.
