The Tech Loop 1 and Tech Loop 2 trails are 5 miles (8 km) from the car park, so you'll have to commit to at least the Mountrussell Loop (Brown Loop) to access them. The Tech Loops have a different character and are a little more difficult than the others at Ballyhoura.

Tech Loop 1 rides fast as it is mostly downhill, and you can carry speed through the bermed turns. There are a couple of jumps along the way that will allow you to get some flying time, but nothing an intermediate rider should have any trouble with. This is most appropriately followed with the Tech Loop 2 which is similar in character to Tech Loop 1. When you get back to the main trail, turn right for a ways to the entrance to Tech Loop 2.

Although the first portion of this trail goes through the forest, much of it traverses a recently (circa 2015) logged section, so you'll be able to see what's coming ahead. The land is managed by the Coillte Estate which is a government owned company which manages much of Ireland's forests for commercial opportunities and recreational pursuits.
