Getting forecast...

Combine two short, closeby loops into a nice, quick ride.

Brock Warner

Overview

This ride combines the short loops of the Triple C Trail and Step Creek Trail to create a decent sized ride: long enough to warrant driving out to Reehers Camp Trailhead, but not so long as to do all of Gales Creek Trail out-and-back.

Need to Know

Tillamook State Forest sees heavy logging activity. Be ready to change plans if some part of your ride is closed due to logging.

Description

In reality these loops can be ridden in any configuration. Clockwise, counter-clockwise, once, or twice. The loops are manageable enough and close enough to be creative with your endurance. Triple C Trail is shorter and easier, so it could be a nice warm-up or cool-down.

The section of Gales Creek Trail that connects the two is mostly uphill when heading southbound. It's quite manageable for a mildly in-shape ride. About halfway up the connecting segment, the trail crosses a retired rail-line, an amusing relic of the past. The descent back to Reehers Camp Trailhead is fast and fun.
