Local Info

Tillamook State Forest offers some of the best mountain biking west of Portland. Most of the trails are multi-use trails, and many have a classic cross-country, hiking-trail-turned-bike-trail feel to them, but for the most part it works well! Gales Creek Trail and the Browns Camp Loop make up the best riding in the eastern part of the forest, and the lengthy Wilson River Trail dominates the western sections of Tillamook State Forest.

Although not in Tillamook State Forest, L.L. Stub State Park, slightly to the east of the forest, has some truly awesome purpose-built singletrack exclusively for mountain bikes and is absolutely worth checking out.

Unfortunately, all of the mountain biking appears to be centered around Highway 6, with seemingly no suitable trails along Highway 26 in the northern parts of Tillamook State Forest or the neighboring Clatsop State Forest.

From the underpass of HWY 6 and on to where this photo was taken, this is a gradual and at times steep climbing, however, the scenery is lush, green, and the tall trees provide a sweet canopy!
