Dry - Whoever posted that dogs must be leashes on the main description is incorrect. On BLM land dogs are welcome off leash. Woof! History

The main loop trail for the Horsethief West trail system.

Daniel Christianson

Dogs Leashed

Features -none-

Trail surface still soft - ride clockwise only until further notice.

Description

This loop literally has a mix of everything. Slickrock to sand, forest to grassy fields and possibly even a water crossing or two during a heavy rain. Seldom flat and never in a straight line, the trail winds its way around a large basin west of UT 313. The route drops down several rock shelves and across a couple different drainages before a meandering climb back up the other side.

It’s hard not to stop and admire the amazing rock-work that went into the construction of this trail by the builders as you ride certain sections. The same can be said about the natural scenery in this area, the trail itself is technical enough to demand your fairly constant attention while riding.

Because of the constantly changing trail and overall length, this trail by itself will be a challenge for some. But by beginning and ending on the Chisholm Trail, this loop can be easily integrated with other trails in the area for a much longer ride for anyone wanting to do so.

This is a taste of moab, with a little bit of what you'll see everywhere else, nerfed down to a beginner level. 9mi — 2h 00m

This websites algorithms are working overtime- the word Slickrock in the description above may be misleading to some who have never been here. This trail is no where near the actual Slickrock Trail the link will take you too. May 25, 2017
Trail Mix designers keep dialing in the right way to make trails and this is a good example of their evolution. There is nothing that really is killer/black diamondish about the many challenge sections. Its just one challenge section after another with spaces of dirt single track in between. The best part is one way and not much traffic! Sep 16, 2017

What a great job by Trail Mix in the layout and construction of this trail! I met some of the folks responsible for the trail work and they moved a lot of BIG rocks and did a fine job in creating what is an awesome trail.Taking the recommendation of the clockwise direction of travel (for trail packing) this trail runs fairly fast allowing for a constant crank session. Really fun trail. Oct 12, 2017
