Description
This route can be a challenging rail to trail due to the distance it offers. The Prairie Spirit trail is a 50+ mile trail with great nature views but never too far from a community to provide SAG if needed.
The trail uses the old railbed of the Leavenworth, Lawrence, and Fort Gibson Railroads and is immaculately maintained and serviced by the Kansas Department of Wildlife. Please make note of the trail permit required outside of certain towns listed in the Restrictions section.
Randy Raza, an Iola cyclist, maintains a very detailed website about every facet of this trail Twitter and online trail status can be found
here. Everything you could possibly need to know about the trail is captured there in more detail then I could ever offer here.
