Overview

This ride connects several fire roads to make a scenic tour of Roth Rock State Forest.

Description

To access this ride, start at Laurel Run Rd, one of the main linking roads in Rothrock State Forest. This forest road starts with a gradual three-mile climb followed by an eight-mile descent to Whipple Dam.

Continue past the dam and head straight at the multiple road junctions to Greenlee Rd. This six mile or so road starts off easy enough and then slowly increases in climbing requirements with a nice kicker in the last mile up to the Gettis Ridge Rd Trail intersection.

Stay right on Gettis Ridge Rd Trail and enjoy a descent to Wampler Rd, a short, one-mile, flat route that has a great viewpoint near the intersection with Bear Meadows Rd.

Stay left on Bear Meadows Rd and settle in for a climb back to the north. Bear left at a junction with Croyle Run Trail and then take a right when you reach Bear Gap Rd. From here, the route is mostly downhill with one climb before you reach the trailhead and the beginning of the ride.
