Description

A great climb along an out-and-back that mostly follows on fire road, with a few parts of singletrack.

Start at the end of Fassler Ave, where there is a gate preventing car access. Climb the first part of fire road, pass the water tank, and the singletrack begins. This short singletrack section winds its way up to the Baquiano fire road, with great views.

When you reach the top of the fire road, bear right and go past the locked gate onto Baquiano Trail. This is a a fire road that ascends to the top of Sweeney Ridge. It's a nicely-graded fire road, with great views of Montara Mountain, the Pacific Ocean, and the Vallemar neighborhood of Pacifica below.

At the top, you'll reach the Portolà Discovery Site, where San Francisco Bay was first sighted by European explorers. From the top, you can explore Sweeney Ridge (and the Nike missile site), make your way to other trails north and south, or descend back the way you came.
