Glassier OS recreation routes are seasonally closed to public use from Dec. 1 through April 30 (opens May 1). No dogs or motorized vehicles allowed.
Description
The Glassier Open Space provides a new way to access the Crown BLM lands above El Jebel, CO. Follow the route on cinder pathway and semi-paved road through agricultural fields. Make a sharp left at the base of the red rock cliff band and continue straight up the doubletrack road. At this point, you can jump onto the new singletrack
Glassier OS Trail.
You may find a few hike-a-bike sections as you climb through high mountain desert terrain. Expect scrub oak, sage fields, cactus patches, pinion, and juniper. The road is a fast way back down to the valley floor.
While this open space is in Eagle County, it's managed by Pitkin County Open Space & Trails. While the steep upper doubletrack section will remain open into the future, it does dead-end at a gate with BLM administrative use only beyond. A new parallel singletrack trail is scheduled to be constructed summer 2016 that will be a much better way to experience the property by bike.
Use this route to connect with
Buckhorn Traverse via BLM Glassier to 8324 Route.
