“This trail heads through a beautiful canyon which accesses the Paradise Rim and other trails.”
— Jared Berrett
Great area for family rides, hiking, or just getting some fresh air. There are kids out on the trail most days, and people love to walk their dogs here without the restriction of leashes.
Head north on Bluff Street (Hwy 18) and cross over Santa Clara Parkway to approximately 1/4 mile where you'll see the parking lot on your left. There is a turning lane specifically for this area. Park at the Chuckwalla Climbing Area parking lot, which has restroom facilities on location. There are maps provided within hardened facilities for you to view which route might work best. The parking lot is gravel.
The trail itself is red dirt/clay-based, which crosses over some fairly sandy spots that might get your legs pumping or you could walk through them. It is easy to follow as you head north up alongside the ridgeline where people love to try their hand at rock-climbing. There are established areas to do this here which look really fun.
Be cautious of other people utilizing the trail. Runners, hikers, and people walking their animals are some of the folks you'll encounter. If it is going to rain, make sure you realize this trail seems to be a vector for water running downhill and could be potentially troublesome. We rode one day after a good rain and it was not a problem other than a few puddles. There is no water so bring some.
