Short, flat, and wide.
Overview
A short, flat, and mostly doubletrack trail that is great for beginners and children to experience trail riding. You can travel to the
Duck Weed Basin trails off the greenway to add 3-4 miles to the ride.
Description
From the
Big Cove Creek Greenway parking lot behind Publix, follow the greenway path about a quarter mile where you pick up the
Flint Trail (doubletrack trail) on the left. You'll cross the Hays Preserve entrance road and proceed up a slight incline skirting the north east side of Bar Lake to a rocky descent through the low lands leading to the Preserve parking lot.
Cross the parking lot and follow the paved
Flint River Greenway path (next to the Hays Preserve information sign) across the bridge to the trail and picnic area. The trail takes you along the bank of the Flint River for a short distance where the trail turns left on
Beaver Dam Run. Shortly after passing the Pump House on the left, you'll encounter the only elevation point on the trail, a steep incline followed by a steep drop with a sharp left turn at the bottom to the
Tupelo Tree Path.
The trail curves through the woods and wetlands with two elevated wooden over passes. Immediately after crossing the bridge, the trail turns right and continues for a short distance through the woods and across a bridge leading back to the Greenway path. Head north (right) to return to the Greenway parking lot or to begin the a second loop on the trail.
