XX Extension is an advanced trail that is typically run as an out-and-back loop that includes
Bloodshed. The entrance/exit is at the dirt mounds at the western end of
XX and across 107th Street from the bottom of
Dynamite Road. Most people use the large mound of dirt in the middle of the area to gain enough speed to make it up the entrance/exit hill on the west side of the area.
The trail is composed of a mixture of ups and downs (like
XX), long heavily armored areas, and rocky elevation changes. Inbound, near the western end, will be two trails off to the right; these are the exit and entrance to the
Bloodshed loop. Stay straight and there will be a fork in the trail. Keep left and power up a rocky climb to the top. A vista at the top rewards you with nice views of the Cal-Sag Channel and the Cal-Sag paved trail on the opposite side of the water. Continuing on will bring you to a technical descent on the back side of the hill. The standard line is to the left and a more difficult, alternate line is on the right. Keep your weight back and your tires rolling.
At the bottom of the descent, heading to the left is an easy exit back east via
Canal. Heading right will continue on
XX and turn eastbound toward the entrance/exit. Those who choose to do the
Bloodshed loop should take the first left. The second left is the
Bloodshed exit. Continuing straight goes back to the entrance/exit.
