Description

This trail can be accessed by heading east out of the south parking lot on the Pronghorn Loop and staying east to the southeast corner of Pronghorn Loop. Alternatively, heading east from the north parking lot on Mahogany Loop, then from the north end of Mahogany Loop, take Canyon Trail east.

This is a multi-use trail, shared with hikers and equestrians. The area is grazed by sheep and cattle, so look out for them as well.

This is an old doubletrack dirt road. There's nothing in the way of technical riding here, just an opportunity to stretch your legs and really "open it up" out there!

I rode this trail yesterday (October 2, 2018). It may be better earlier in the season, but yesterday it was seven miles of washboarded gravel ranch road, heavily impacted by cattle. Unable to maintain any speed due to the washboards, it was just a slog (I went counter-clockwise, so it was all slightly uphill). Pronghorn access trail was fine, dry and nice, Sand Wash was also fine. On the plus side - tons of pronghorns and a nice prairie rattler. Saw nobody else the whole ride, except ranchers in trucks/ATVs & their dogs (and cows). Oct 3, 2018
