Description
Nice, flowy singletrack with a backwoods cross-country feel as opposed to most of the more difficult trails in the Jenny Wiley MTB trail system. The Bluff consists of several segments due to its length (Initiation, Knuckles, Yella Gate, Mikie's Berms, and Rainbow Connection). The trail is pretty self explanatory, and all paths lead to Reclamation Loop.
The preferred access is to follow the fire road from the parking lot about 1/4 mile until you reach a pipeline easement at the ridge. Follow the sign to the Short Loop Trail, then bear left as short loop begins to descend back to the parking lot. The Bluff trailhead sign is a few hundred yards along the this route.
The Bluff continues along the steep slope through the named sections moving west and into more difficult terrain. The view of the lake reveals itself in flashes and glimpses, but you really have to keep your hands on the handlebars as you approach the steep switchbacks near the western end.
As you descend toward the campground on long switchbacks, you'll pass through an "Indian marker tree" which is a truly unique experience.
The trail connects with Reclamation Loop, which provides access to several other trails, or an easy doubletrack ride back to the parking lot. Don't let your riding partner drag you up the old trail along the backbone ridge. Stay right at the intersection and continue descending back toward the road where you can pick up the Beginner Loop to return to the trailhead.
