Brutal thorns. This trail needs lots of work.
I did this ride from south to north, starting at the end of Fiske Creek Road
(what some call the helipad). Although I have seen it done north to south, I would NOT. In that direction, the first mile is rideable; and then it's a hike-a-bike all the way to the top of Fiske Peak.
South to north is still plenty challenging. It's pretty much a short hike-a-bike from the helipad to the ridge. Once you top out on the ridge, spend some time embracing the view.
Afterwards, ride north, up to Lowery Point (3038'), and follow this little used trail along the ridge. At long last, after a steep climb and an unlimited supply of thorny brush, the trail joins the well used hike to Fiske Peak. It is all downhill from here! However, you'll need all of your skills to negotiate the switchbacks; most people will walk the corners. Once the lower elevations are reached, the obstacles diminish, and it is a quick zip back to the trailhead.
