Check hunting season, wear bright colors as needed.
Mountains Streams Trail is doubletrack of mixed quality through beautiful forest offering a taxing climb or enlivening descent depending on which direction you are traveling. There is ample parking at the trailhead off 381 just outside of Jones Mill. From here, the first half is pretty mild, but parts can be muddy. After about 5 miles the surface gets rougher and the trail climbs about a thousand feet to the crest of Laurel Ridge.
Begin the ride with a steady climb past the intersection with Pike Run Trail and then descend to Camp Run and cross the bridge. Continue with a climb bringing you close to PA381 (which you may hear but not see). Gaps between trees may provide views north and west up the valley. Descend to a trailhead at Aukerman Rd. Take a right on Aukerman (not the sharp right which is another road) and, after a short distance, rejoin the trail on your left. The trail continues past Sky View Rd parking area. At this point, turn left, go down the hill, and turn right on the rail grade. Shortly after, follow the trail past a gate and continue another mile to where the climb starts in earnest. Near the top, the trail noticeably flattens out and continues for a while until you reach the junction with Mountain View Trail and Tunnel Road.
