“Start on a sustained steep climb and finish with some technical rock riding.”
— Shenandoah Bicycle
A classic Harrisonburg hotlap. Big Hollow
is a sustained steep granny gear climb (going counter clockwise), or a ripping fast, worm burning, wide open descent off Hone Quarry Ridge
for those going clockwise.
Heartbreak departs off HQ ridge along the north face on difficult, rocky, off-camber, and exposed trail. This trail will challenge even the most skilled riders.
Park at the Hone Quarry picnic area and head upstream on the road until you see trail markers on the left. If you get to the lake, you've gone too far.
The trails roll both ways, but are most commonly ridden up Big Hollow (430)
and down Heartbreak Trail (435A)
. Big Hollow (430)
is wide, steep and relatively unobstructed. Heartbreak Trail (435A)
is skinny, off-camber, exposed, technical, rocky and just plain hard.
