and Sawmill Trail begin at the same location; near the Snowflake Lift bottom terminal at the intersection of Four O'Clock
Road and King's Crown Road on the west side of Breckenridge. There is a large sign at the trailhead, and both routes have a marker post. Sawmill Trail follows Sawmill Creek (the low road), and Reservoir climbs below the Snowflake Lift to a subdivision ski access trail (the high road).
Sawmill essentially follows Sawmill Creek from Snowflake lift to the mid-load Super Connect lift terminal, then climbs to Four O'Clock
ski trail via a ski area access road.
From the Four O'Clock
Road trailhead, climb 1/2 mile to the small Sawmill Reservoir adjacent to the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC) facility. Turn right onto the gravel road and ride southwest towards the base of Chair C, an antiquated double chairlift.
Cross Sawmill Creek west of the chairlift and begin a loose, grinding climb up the Sawmill Ski Trail. The climb is not particularly good, but does mellow after about 1/3 mile. About 2/3 mile past Chair C, the singletrack ends in a short descent to mid-load Super Connect lift terminal and another gravel road intersection.
Sawmill Trail climbs this road to the right to Four O'Clock
Ski Trail. From the ski trail, Pioneer
is not far away on the downhill side of the ski trail.
Alternatively, at the end of the singletrack near the mid-load Super Connect lift terminal, go left continuing along Sawmill Creek passing the Wanderer
trail on the left which can be connected to the base of Peak 9. Or continue further up Sawmill Creek to the Wanderer
trail on the right and connect this up to Four O'Clock
Ski Trail and the latter half of the Breckenridge Ski Resort
Sawmill Trail also makes a great bailout from the midpoint of the Breckenridge Ski Resort
loop should weather become inclement.
