Description
Valley Forge starts at Eaton Saddle, across the street from the top of
Mt. Lowe Road. Valley Forge
Trail is on an old road grade, leading from Eaton Saddle down into the canyon north of Mt Wilson.
Trail on this side of Mt. Wilson get quite a bit less traffic than those on the front side, so there is much more of a backcountry feel to these trails.
Valley Forge starts off fast through an oak forest, but quickly opens up to chaparral with amazing views down into the canyon. The riding itself is fast with a loose trail surface due to lack of use and it is covered in acorns and debris. Farther down, it enters the forest again with some fun switchbacks and fast sections between.
This trail ends at the
Gabrielino Trail (NRT) where, if you turn left, you can return to Redbox or a right turn will lead to West Fork Campground. It is part of a fun network of trails on the lesser-traveled North face of Mt. Wilson. You can connect this trail to the surrounding area with the
Rincon-Redbox Truck Trail or the
Gabrielino Trail (NRT).
