Description

Rock Island Road (GH 87) begins on the north side of Lincoln Park Road 1/4 mile east of Lincoln Meadow. There is a brown USFS "GH 87" marker post at the junction.

The first 1/2 mile of the doubletrack rolls through the forest. There are several boggy sections in this initial trail section, including one that must be skirted early in the season.

The rolling forested section of the trail transitions to a big-ring, gravel road descent. There are several large drainage bars, and a few loose turns, so be attentive.

After 1-1/3 mile, the road takes an abrupt left turn. Rock Island Trail continues east through a timber barrier at this junction and is the better of the two descents.

Turn left and descend a steep, loose and dangerous section. The smell of burning brakes may accompany this section of descent.

After 1/2 mile (before the valley floor) Rock Island Road crosses Galena Ditch Trail and in another 1/3 mile terminates on Tiger Road between Muggins Gulch Road and North Fork Road.
