Overview

Description

This short trail connecting Mt Disappointment with Eaton Saddle is very narrow, has very tight switchbacks, and has very high exposure. The first section is somewhat flat, but quickly starts to descend to Eaton Saddle. Technical and rocky, it will keep you on your game.

The portion of the trail up to the summit of San Gabriel Peak is similar, but somewhat more sandy and loose.

Before the station fire I frequently rode from Red Box up to the top of Mt. Disappointment, then down this trail, east on the Mt. Lowe fire road through the Mueller Tunnel to the Mt. Wilson road, and then sped downhill back to Red Box. Since the fire this trail is too treacherous for me unless I walk a lot of it. San Gabriel Peak too is better as a hike than as a bike ride when you get towards the top. Aug 31, 2016
