“The best beginner singletrack in Sedona all wrapped up in one great ride.”
— Nick Wilder
Sedona does not have much easy riding, but thankfully what they do have is great. A combination of scenery, genuine (but not scary) singletrack, and lots of bail out options make this a good option for beginning riders to experience great mountain biking.
Need to Know
This is a VERY popular parking area - come early on weekends or park elsewhere and ride in.
Start from the Bell Rock Vista and follow the Big Park Loop
. There is one small technical section in the southwest corner (near the start of the ride as mapped) where the trail goes in and out of a wash. No problem for intermediates, and beginners can easily walk this section and enjoy the rest. The far northeast corner has a beautiful slickrock area that is fun to play around in.
Go right (north) when you hit the Bell Rock Trail
and follow this easy, wide path until you can take the Llama Trail
to the right. This is marked blue/intermediate, but this short section you'll use is fairly easy. Walk short sections if you get uncomfortable, but nothing that is very hard is more than 10-20 feet long.
After a few tenths of a mile, go left on Baby Bell Trail
and enjoy an easy fast trail to the Bell Rock Trail
. Go left and immediately take a right on Phone Trail
. Enjoy this really fun trail until it ends (all too soon) back on Bell Rock Trail
. Follow this back to your car.
