Description
This is but one small section of the Pinhoti trail, an IMBA epic trail that is is dozens of miles long. This section is known locally as Pinhoti 2, or P2 and provides a great backcountry mix of doubletrack climbing bringing you to a singletrack downhill.
The ride starts on the forest trail, just a few hundred yards downhill from the end of
Pinhoti 1. It starts down a dirt road that quickly starts climbing. At its end, you take a sharp right past a closed gate onto an old doubletrack that soon starts riding like a singletrack. While the climbing is less steep here, you are still going uphill.
But that's a good thing, because when you reach the top, the trail turns to pure singletrack and starts pointing downhill. The trail follows a ridge, and maybe it's just me, but some of the trees seem pretty close together, keeping you on your toes.
Being a ridge, there are a couple of short uphills thrown in just to keep you honest, but they are short and only let you have more of the downhill goodness.
The trail ends on the Mulberry Gap road. Hopefully you have your reservations in at the Mulberry Gap Getaway, because it is just a mile up the road (and over the gap), and you'll be ready to crack open a beverage.
